I have seen this movie roughly about 500 times, but I never grow tired of it. The original Terminator, and the first sequel, Judgment Day are cinematic masterpieces. But why do I love the movie so much? Oh, I'm SO glad you asked!!
1) The movie was made in 1984, as was I.
2) James Cameron is one of the best writers and directors of our time. The movie is well written, well shot, and well edited.
3) The first line of the movie is "What the hell? God damn son of a bitch, what the hell?" Any movie that starts off with cursing is Aces in my book.
4) Linda Hamilton and I both grew up in Salisbury, MD.
5) Michael Biehn was some SERIOUS eye candy back in the 80s, and you get to see him in various staged of undress.
6) Ah-nold's penis. Little did we know that Penis would one day become The Govenator.
7) The Soundtrack. The 80s were a time of synthesized sounds, and this movie is no exception, but the actual "Theme Song" ... I dunno, I just think its beautiful.
8) Kyle Reese risks (and ultimately loses) his life, to protect a woman he's loved, and came across time for. Call me a chick (damned vag) but that's a little tear inducing for me.
9) It gave multiple generations such fabulous catch phrases as "Hasta La Vista, baby." "Come with me if you want to live." and "I'll be back."
10) Of the four (five if you count the outfit she wears in the very beginning) outfits Sarah Connor wears in this movie, She wears knee socks with three of them. I heart Knee socks.
Additionally, I mentioned it was made (released) the year I was born; but Judgment Day was released the same year I moved to Maryland (Moving was a big deal to me at the time, its actually one of my Clearest memories of my childhood). Rise of the Machines was released when I graduated from high school and Salvation was released this year, the year I turn twenty-five. I feel like the series and I have grown up together, passed through milestones together. That may seem completely and utterly ridiculous, but I am completely and utterly ridiculous.
Do you have a movie you are particularly passionate about? (Yes, Jaxie, we know you love Harry Potter) If so, what is it? Are you annoying like me and constantly quoting it, or reciting the dialog as you watch it?
Thanks for reading!
