Ru Who? RuPaul, of course. Is there any other Ru?

None worth mentioning, anyway.
RuPaul started life as a poor black child in the Brewster Housing projects. With hard work, perseverance, and a hell of a lot of duct tape, She has become an actress, model, singer, and writer, with books, movies, endorsements, her own talk show, and of course, Drag Race, and it's spin-off, Drag U.
I fell in love with RuPaul when I was just 12 years old and we first got cable. I know, I know... The Eastern Shore is about 20 years behind the rest of the world. I was watching VH1, and this ginormous, glamorous woman with amazing hair and make up appeared on my screen. It was there that my love of drag queens was born, and a life long obsession with Ru was born. You can also definitely see her influence on this blog...
Ru has taught me a lot about self acceptance. She's taught me never to give up. Ru has also taught me a lot about tolerance, and I credit her for a lot of the work I do for the gay community... If I hadn't been exposed to the fabulous world of Queendom at such a young age, I might have grown up bigoted... there was certainly enough of it around when I was a kid. Instead, loving Ru, her music, and her books, and her shows has made me a more open minded person.
So whenever I feel down, I look to Ru and remind myself that anything is possible. I can do this. I can be anything I want to be, I just have to work for it. And I don't have time to mope anymore. I am a "Champion", after all.
